Legendary Coach Demonstrated the Selfless Spirit of Christmas

Every Christmas season, the Salvation Army has its bell ringers. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, you will see them at every store’s front door. Volunteers are also welcome to help out in the kettle-manipulation department.

Ringing the bell can be a rewarding way to spend an hour or two of your time during the holidays. Just ask NFL Hall of Famer, Super Bowl-winning coach, and broadcaster Tony Dungy.

Jay Feely of CBS Sports witnessed Dungy ringing the bell for the Salvation Army outside a grocery store.

Dungy isn’t the first to volunteer this year. Dungy has done it at least once before with his family.

We are out ringing bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle at the Publix at the Apex in North Tampa. If you’re close come by and see us tonight and make a holiday donation for the needy!

Dungy is a man with deep faith who uses that faith to help others in his community and around the world. Dungy has sponsored or lent his name to several initiatives that promote Christian values and family.

It is not difficult for him to serve in such a humble and simple manner. Dungy could have just written a check and donated to the Salvation Army, which he probably has done. But he chose to stand in front of a store to ring bells and encourage others to give.

This is a strong display of the Christmas spirit.
