Which liberties are more important when there is a conflict between them? Science-minded American Civil Liberties Union offers an answer.
In Virginia, Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s 2022 Policies regarding Privacy, Dignity, and Respect for All Students in Virginia’s Public Schools have caused quite a stir. This puts the power in the hands and control of parents and students when it comes to the guidance and mixing of their children.
Schools must respect parents’ beliefs and values: Parents have the right to instill and nurture beliefs and values in their children, as well as make decisions about education and upbringing according to their family culture, customs, and faith. …
Schools should trust parents to make the best decisions for their children. Parents and their health care providers are best able to help determine: a) which names, nicknames, and/or pronouns will be used by teachers and school staff while their child attends school; b) whether counseling or social transitions at school encourage a child to express a gender other than their child’s sexuality, or c) whether their student is expressing a different gender while at school.
In the plan, the Supreme Court cites the Supreme Court as saying that “a parent’s rights to raise their child is perhaps the oldest of fundamental liberty interests recognized and acknowledged by this Court.” ‘”
The Washington Free Beacon noted that the blueprint of the governor will “preserve sexual-specific sports teams and locker rooms, as well as bathrooms.”
The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, (ACLUVA), isn’t impressed. It released a statement on September 29th:
These Model Policies are in violation of state law. Their adoption will lead to rampant violations of the rights of students, parents, and school personnel. They will also cause serious harm to transgender students and those who are not a part of the nonbinary community.
ACLUVA demands the government retract the Model Policies 2022.
The Union says keeping biological males out of the girls’ locker rooms and allowing parents the right to make decisions about their children’s sex is against the educational process.
The Model Policies 2022 will not create an environment conducive to learning that is safe for all students. They will instead result in school district policies that threaten transgender students’ identity and basic humanity, ostracize and deny them the same opportunities as a cisgender student.
The policies are based on “assumptions”; the ACLU subscribes to science.
The Model Policies 2022 are based on the assumption that biological sex is binary and can easily be determined. However, those assumptions are not supported by science.
The plan will also kill children.
According to the National Institutes of Health, suicide is the second most common cause of death in the United States for those aged 15-24. Researchers discovered that students from gender minorities had significantly higher rates than cisgenders of suicide attempts, depression, and suicidal ideation.
Because of the unique needs of children who identify as having sex with the opposite gender, it appears that government schools are the proper decision-makers for America’s underaged. Parents must give up their age-old rights or liberties.
The American Civil Liberties Union affirms this.
People can’t all have the same liberties. Some people cancel others. The ACLU seems to have made it clear that they prefer certain liberties. Based on legislation from across the country, it appears that a growing number of politicians — not only Democrats — are in agreement.
Virginia Democratic legislators voted for Gov. Youngkin’s plan Monday. They struck it down to a score of 5-4.
The Free Beacon acknowledges that it is symbolic.
The vote of the commission was formal. The Virginia Department of Education will finalize the model policy and it does not need legislative approval.
It doesn’t require a confirmation from the ACLU. Is the ACLU going to represent the state in court? It will be interesting to see.
In the meantime, America sits embroiled in two very big battles: Sex vs. Gender, Government vs. Parents.
