Criminal Charges Could Be Filed Against Alec Baldwin

According to TMZ, Alec Baldwin could face criminal charges.

The report outlined several recent actions taken by Mary Carmack-Altwies, District Attorney, that suggest she may be planning to bring the actor on trial in connection with the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, cinematographer, on the set of “Rust.”

According to The Santa Fe, New Mexican Carmack-Altwies requested an emergency payment from the New Mexico Board of Finance last week. She asked for $635,000 to help “up to four possible criminal charges” that could arise from the ongoing investigation into the shooting.

Half of the amount requested by the state board was approved, and she received $317,000 to help fund a special prosecutor, special investigation, experts, and other funding. Although she stated that four people could be charged, the prosecutor also said that it was possible for them to face criminal charges. She added, “We will be asking for a special appropriation to cover the remaining money.”

Carmack-Altwies stated that Alec Baldwin, a well-known movie actor, is one of the possible defendants. Although she didn’t name any additional cast members or crew members who might still be under investigation for their involvement, she did list possible charges and stated that her office was “certainly reviewing all the New Mexico homicide statutes as well as any gun statutes.”

Carmack-Altwies said that the funds requested would be used for up to four jury trials in connection with the shooting that killed Hutchins, and injured director Joel Souza.

In the coming weeks, a complete report from Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office based on the extensive investigation will be available.

Although she did not state for sure that she planned to file criminal charges, the prosecutor wanted the funding in place prior to the release of the report in case prosecutions were warranted.

“Experts in firearms, handling firearms on movie sets, and safety protocols for move sets must all be retained immediately,” Carmack Altwies stated in her request. “If the First Judicial District attorney… took funding for the ‘RUST” prosecution out of a general fund, there wouldn’t be enough funding for our employees, expert witnesses needed for other cases, and general expenses of the office.
